I believe that this soldier 1st Classman Martland did what any real man would have done. It wasn't as if he brutally beat the man, he just gave him a warning, I believe that the rapist was more humiliated and embarrassed than anything. He can beat up on a woman and rape a child but can't stand to eat dirt when a real man pushes him to the pavement! I stand behind Martland and believe it will be a disservice to America and the United States Army and Military to have him discharged from his post. We need more men like him serving our country, I just wish he would have beat him into a coma, that is just my deep feeling on the situation. That child had his innocence stolen and his mother abused for defending what she loved...

I fully support SFC Martland and his actions. Since when does the US Government look the other way while atrocities are committed???

If the US Army is responsible for training the Afghan army, why would regular Afghan citizenry not believe the rape of the boy was not part of the training. So to prove it was not a US instilled behavior, he justifiably beat the crap out of the Afghan soldier. Bravo Zulu SFC Martland

Sgt. Mainland deserves to continue his outstanding career. He has done nothing to merit his purge from the Army.

Dear Congressman Labrador, My name is Deborah Davis and I am the grandmother of a soldier who is in South Korea as I type this letter. Therefore, as part of the military community, I’m writing to you on behalf of Sergeant First Class Charles Martland. As of today I have lost all confidence in our government and the people who represent us. We, as a whole, have come to the point that we are becoming sycophants of those in Washington. I just can’t stand by and watch one more decent man fall under the boot of this administration. This is your quote from your home page: “More than half of my constituent service caseload is focused on ensuring promises are kept to the men and women of our armed forces.” If this is true, then I am asking you to step in and help save this honorable soldiers career. He should be seen as a Hero. He stood up for the weak and helpless as a protector. That is what our soldiers are about. Protecting those who can’t protect themselves and serving this once great country honorable. If we are paying these corrupt people who then turn around and act odious while laughing in our face, then they should be brought into line. This Sergeant did just that and I don’t think he should have apologized. I can put myself in the place of this Afghan mother who’s only thought was justice for her son. She was alone and where her son is concerned she was ready to die for justice. I think your mother or mine would have put themselves in harms way if it had meant justice for us. If you have not read the letter from Duncan Hunter to Secretary Ash Carter now would be a good time to do this. I don’t know you Congressman and you don’t know me, but I want to trust you. SFC Charles Martland didn’t know this little boy or his mother but he stood up for what is right. God will bless him for his thoughtless bravery. I hope he will bless you to for the same action. Sincerely yours. Deborah Davis
