We should be honoring him for helping a child that was terrorized--that is not "culture" that is abuse of power. Shame on all of those who did not stand up--commanders in our military know right from wrong and raping a child is wrong. Whoever gave orders for the US to stand down because of this so called "culture " is on the side of evil and deceit. Our nation needs to stand up - politically correct is becoming terrorism. Our nation stands up for those who can not--children above all else. An Afghan mom knew it was wrong --why don't we?

The order to look the other way at such an abuse of power by the Afghan authorities and the violatons of human rights is unsupportable and un-American. We have to stand up for our troops agonizing over their inaction and for helpless children and their families! We are arming these people!

SFC Charles Martland practiced the Army core value of Integrity:
"Do what is right, legally and morally.
Be willing to do what is right even when no one is looking.
It is our "moral compass" an inner voice". He was punished for his actions, and this is incorrect on the part of the military as a whole and the Army for using this two time bronze star awardee as a way of cutting down their ranks. This decision on their part is atrocious, and SFC Charles Martland should be honorably discharged at most, not removed unceremoniously due to a lack of spine in his leadership.

We cry out for justice on behalf Charles Martland. He should not only be able to maintain his position in the Army, but we demand a formal apology from the Army.
He should be declarated for this act of honor and courage. This young boy was chained to a bed and repeatedly raped for 7-10 days while his mother was helpless to help him and yet the monster who did this roams free! And Mr. Martland, who is a hero, is being discharged for pushing this rapist...PUSHING him after this boy has been repeatedly sodomized! This is injustice and must be exposed! The hero is being punished and the criminal is free.

Cross cultural understanding and strategic/operational/tactical objectives are not mutually exclusive. Martland and O'Quinn's discplinary actions appear to be a case of mis-guided leadership. I'm quite sure there is more to the background story to both these guys. Doesn't matter. The saying "Managers do things right and Leadership does the right thing" does not seem to apply here. Someone in leadership needs to pull their head out of their 4th point of contact and rectify..... Or the consequences to morale in a small knit community will have lasting repercussions. If what is being reported is true, this makes me sad. It also makes me wonder what might happen to me if I deployed over there and saw abuse that I would feel compelled to stand against. Would I lose my career for standing up for what is moral and ethical? I could not stand by and see a child sexually abused, whether it is their "culture" or not!
