stronger penalties for sexual assault offenders

Sexual assault, or sexual exploitation is detrimental and violates the child\'s right to life and development. It can leave irreversible physical and psychological damage. Children deserve a childhook that includes a period of innocence - a protected space. It is apparent that the accused adult\'s right to a fair trial is given precedence over the child\'s right to justice and protection. Conviction and sentencing should not depend on proving the criminal intent of the offender rather than establishing the impact of the offence on the child or children. The offenders commit these horrific crimes for their own grtification and not once do they consider the feelings of the victims or the impact it would have on their lives. Sexual assault against children is never justifiable, but if stronger penalties are issued, then assault against children is preventable. We must be aggressive in reducing sexual assault against children. When there are multiple victims consecutive sentencing is appropriate instead of concurrent sentencing. We are taking a stand to protect ALL the innocent victims and if we change the penalties now we may be able to save the next potential victim. Thank you Toni
