In recent years, sex among the young people has become something common, something cool to do. Why do you think young people think that its cool to have sex (sometimes unprotected one) with someone you barely know? I’m addressing young people here are those between the age of 12-18. We have seen so many cases of young ones having sex with either someone their age or even someone way older. Its either with their own consent or by force. Why do you think all these happened? The only reason will be they are not nurtured with full or proper education or knowledge about sex.

Famous Malaysian actress, Lisa Surihani, had involved herself on a mission to take on child sex predators. She had interviewed few young girls who were sexually groomed and raped.

Young people, be it a boy or girl, should be nurtured with proper knowledge on sex. They should know when an adult touches them at any parts of their body (that should not be touched), they should avoid themselves from that person or tell about it to their parents or someone they trust. Sometimes, they might feel uncomfortable talking to their parents. Therefore, it becomes the responsibility of schools to address this issue, and inform and educate students about it as much as possible.

With the changing world, everyone is adopting to the new techniques and fashion trends, why should sex education be denied in schools? People make a hype over sex education when in fact children seek all these information from various other sources. Instead of encouraging the children to opt for the information from the other sources that can misguide them, it is better to implement sex education in schools. Personally, I support this statement.

This is because some of us, when we hear the word ‘sex’, we immediately think about lewd and obscene acts. However, sex is more than just arousal and penetration. Many things have to be understood about sex. When sex education is implemented, it does not mean that children will be straightforwardly taught on how the sexual act is performed. For every level and age, there are specific topics about sexuality that will be tackled. Thus, sex education should be a required course to all schools.
