NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION MUST ADDRESS PUBLIC CONCERNS OVER "SERIOUS NEAR MISS" AT SAN ONOFRE

There is a lack of concern for the people of Southern California from the people in charge of San Onofre. Their actions indicate they would just as soon see us dead as see us safe. Protect us, please, from the safety shortcuts of Southern California Edison at San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station.

I support the City of San Clemente's petition to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. SCE has a proven record of mismanagement and dangerous shortcuts. Even without a "near-miss" incident, their behavior warrants extra scrutiny.

This is a very reckless and life threatening diaster waiting to happen. We have to be extremely careful with this highly toxic fuel. It must be moved away from the ocean to a more remote and secure location.

How can we have an issue this sensitive to public safety, and there's no transparency here?

This is a no-brainer !

We stand with the people who have brought the issue to light. There must be continuous oversight as well as the acknowledgement that citizen activists must be listened to. I support the letter presented by Steve Swartz dated Sept. 05, 2018 expressing concerns transporting and storing spent nuclear fuel. Thank you.

I recall the decision to build this facility on an active earthquake fault and things just got progressively worse from there.

We must develop a better plan to store and monitor this dangerous radioactive material, and we need to have a viable contingency plan to detect and deal with any failures of the canisters.

It is imperative we prevent a nuclear disaster , it’s to late if a nuclear disaster happens. There is no turning back after a nuclear disaster occurs.

Nuclear power is poison. It presents a current and long term danger to millions of human being.

Shut down ALL nuclear generating stations before America experiences its own Fukushima.

Do not contain Nuclear waste in canisters on the Beach! A near miss should alarm you to the dangers to the health of humans and Oceans!

The cavalier ineptitude with which the future of the California Coast is being handled is mind blowing. This issue needs to be addressed at the State and Federal levels.

This is a threat to all of our coastal cities within 50 miles. The storage system is less than 20 inches above hi tide line. Sea level rise is expected to be much higher and they are scheduled to leave this here for 300 years. This is an unacceptable risk. Yerrorism is a scary but real possibility too. Moving it to the Mesa on the other side of the freeway could-should be an option.

I am a member of the Board of Trustees of the Capistrano Unified School District, which serves 50,000 students, many of whom live or go to school within the former evacuation zone for SONGS. This issue is also of grave concern to our District and families. The lack of contingency planning for the dismantling of SONGS and transportation of its spent fuel is outrageous and an insult to our community.
