The university has responded to this and acknowledged our concerns. They have promised to arrange a forum at which we can discuss the reasons behind the proposed changes, our concerns with the transition, and the way to move forward. They have also requested student representation on planning committees to ensure our views are represented as this moves along.
As a result of this, the petition text has been removed as a show of optimism moving forward. Should the need arise, this petition can be restarted.

The university silence has been heavy lately but the lack of movement on their end only proves why we need this network to stay independent. I am spending my evenings gathering documentation to prove exactly why we cannot afford to lose the specialized resources we have built together.

The administration is finally listening because of the momentum you helped build. My network is my professional home and seeing so many of you defend it means the world to me.

way too much security risk involved in merging everything. leave it alone.
This will be a nightmare for the cs labs. hope the university actually listens to us for once.
Please dont merge the networks. It makes no sense for the workload we have.
Keep our labs private please. We need those resources for our projects without the rest of the campus slowing it down.
The current setup works perfectly fine. Why mess with something that isnt broken???
