Send Windsor Forest to the Right School Based on Fulton County’s Own Criteria

Our elementary students should not be sent across major roads such as Alpharetta Hwy, 120, or across 92 when they can attend a neighborhood school. Sweet Appleand Hembree Springs are both in the neighborhood and do not require buses or cars to travel on of across the major highways. As a professional educator, schools get more parent buy-in when the schools are local to the neighborhood. To send Windsor Forrest students to another school seems to motivated in the interest of students in that location not in the interest of the students in Windsor Forrest who have s closer, safer proximity to Sweet Apple and Hembree Springs.

I am oposed to the current plan of redistricting Windsor Forest to the new Hwy 9 school. We have repeatedly pointed out how this redistricting violates Fulton County's own criteria: proximity, projected enrollment, traffic patterns, safety, and feeder alignment. Our neighborhood has faced redistricting 5 times already. This latest redisctricting will surely have to be changed as well due to the horrendous affects it will have to traffic patterns on already heavily congested streets. Hwy 9 and Corssville/Holcomb Bridge Road are obvious and natural borders. Allowing us to remain at Hembree or be rezoned to Sweet Apple (given the small size of our neighborhood) does not adversely affect current or projected growth at either school. It allows our children to safely and quickly travel to school. Lastly, it preserves our community by allowing us to continue to attend school with the neighborhoods and extracurricular groups that we already have established relationships with. Windsor Forest is NOT opposed to redistricting, we ARE opposed to needlessly reassigning our neighborhood yet again for reasons the county cannot substaniate.

Buses should not cross the Hwy9/92 intersection on a regular basis. Plus, if something happens anywhere along Hwy 9 from the river all the way up the school, traffic backs up immediately. It was a terrible place to put a school, but now that we have it built, lets consider some better options about who should attend - the students south of Hwy 92.

Hey 9 school is not the right school for our neighborhood to be going to. We are forced to send our kids through the most dangerous intersection in North Fulton!!!

We ask that you carefully consider the points detailed in this petition as they are based on Fulton County School Board's stated criteria. The impact of the small number of children from Windsor Forest to either Hembree Springs or Sweet Apple Elementary School is very small but the impact to these children and their parents is huge, from the standpoint of safety as well as disruption of long-standing community ties.

Highway 9 is a deathtrap. Please protect our children from this unnecessary danger, while avoiding adding to the volume of traffic already there.

Logistics of location and distance should keep the children as close to their homes as possible. I was shuffled around to four elementary schools as a child due to redistricting...a very frustrating experience. What this does to the children should be the foremost consideration.

Our main concern is maintaining the community we have spent years cultivating. My family and neighbors have volunteered countless hours supporting HSES. This has resulted in an enriched school environment and an opportunity for my children and me to develop several close friendships. Many of these people live within close proximity us. If we cannot keep our HSES family together, we would like to join some of our other friends who are moving to Sweet Apple Elementary School. We would like to join them in creating a new elementary school experience.

Please leave Windsor Forest children in their present school district. This would help the probability of an accident not happening.
