Please sign this petition to return Iowa’s kids to in-person schooling this August. This decision is detrimental to the students’ mental health and overall well-being. Face to face interaction between peers and with teachers is so important, promoting social skills and building relationships that online school can’t provide. Kids need the structure, accountability, discipline, and most importantly, the support and inspiration from teachers and peers that only face to face learning can offer. Passionate teachers, among other things, create a safe place and sense of belonging for students, especially for those who lack security at home. Trade experiences, business experiences, fine arts, sports, and other extracurriculars provide valuable lessons of resilience, dedication, and the importance of character, crucial to the development of young adults. Additionally, there will be extensive educational setbacks from what has been missed this spring and what may be missed in the fall.

I just looked at the screen and saw we hit a hundred signatures which is honestly kind of surreal since I thought this would just be a small thing I sent to a few neighbors. I am sitting here drinking coffee and thinking about how many kids really need that structure back in the classroom because the isolation is just getting to be too much for everyone involved.

Our kids' mental and emotional health depends on them getting back to school - to routine, normalcy, friends, etc. Their mental/emotional health is at FAR greater risk than their risk of getting corona at school.
My children are 7 and 8 and need to be back in a physical classroom to interact, collaborate, practice team building skills, and many other skills that are necessary to their development
As an educator, I agree with this statement. And a plastic shield would be much better than a scary mask to children looking at their teacher if this is required.
I support getting the kids back into the schools. The impact of delayed education, lack of a structured, consistent learning environment, and absent social experiences with their peers far outweigh any risks from COVID for this segment of our population. We know more about the virus now and it's time to use our common sense.
This is my son’s senior year of high school. It is imperative for him to attend school in order for him to be prepared for college. Please consider this when making the decision for school.
It’s time to reinstate normalcy
We can’t open like normal without putting lives of teachers and the kids’ families at risk. Masks need to at least be required.

Please send the children back to school. I have no way to care for my children during the day if there is no school.
