As sad as the situation is for Amanda, she had the responsibility to read the Miss America contract she signed at her local which clearly states that she will not turn 25 before December 31 of the year she would compete at Miss America. Either she did not read the contract and know that this was a stipulation to her participation or she made a conscience decision to disregard the clause in her contract. It is her obligation to disclose her age and the fact that she will turn 25 prior to December 31, 2014. By her signing the contract she misrepresented her age and was disqualified as she should have been. Yes, I know you are shaking your head and saying but she turned in her driver’s license and birth certificate as validation of her age. That fact is true but she would have signed the contract first and thus she is disqualified because she misrepresented herself by signing the contract and second she is in fact too old. In our “entitled” society people do not want to accept responsibility for their actions and want to pass the blame to others as this case so aptly demonstrates. In order to maintain the integrity of the program the Miss America Organization had no choice but to disqualify this contestant.

This is a disgrace and an embarrassment for the State of Delaware. It is hard to believe that an organization as long-lived as Miss America employs illiterate and incompetent officials. What a pathetic society we have become. It sickens me that another tradition with positive role models will be lost to my family and I am sure many others due to this incident. The Miss America organization and the state of Delaware should not only apologize to this fine young woman who did nothing wrong, they should be forced to reimburse her for any costs she incurred associated with this despicable pageant. In addition, the organization should apologize to Delaware's citizens who will be represented this year by a "second best" contestant. The state should either make an exception this year and reinstate Amanda as Miss Delaware or eliminate themselves from the pageant completely. Amanda won the title, she is a beautiful, intelligent and caring young woman who deserves her crown!

I was searching around on the Miss America website and it says you have to be in between the ages of 17-24. Amanda doesn't turn 25 until October and the pageant is on September 25. She should be able to compete! It's sad that they stripped her of her crown when on the Miss America website says you have to be 17-24 and come the time of the pageant she will still be 24!

This is so wrong, why did the pageant associates check this out when she was miss pike creek ? All the expenses I'm sure her family has put out, her scholarships, this is so unfair

Ok, so I may be dumb, but she's too old? Why is there an age limit on this and why is it 24? Oh, wait, women after the age of 24 no longer become useful, interesting, or beautiful, that's right, I forgot. Basically all I got out of this is, a beautiful, accomplished woman, won something and then it got taken away because she was too old. Great job Delaware, send a positive message there why don't you.

If she was a baby she would still be in the race! Pageant is responsible. She's a 24 year old young lady who won a crown fairly and then had it taken away. Show some empathy!

I agree with Lorraine , it is a total embarrassment to the State of Delaware n humiliating for Amanda , they already crowned the runner up last night so , I doubt they will de thrown her n give it back ... But Amanda should get compensated somehow for the mishap on the organization n their technicality .
