Segregation of alcohol products in store/gas stations.
I am in recovery from alcoholism and every day is a challenge when I step into a gas station. Seeing cold beer on ice right next to the register triggers temptations that are difficult to resist. It's a struggle I know many others who are in recovery face regularly. When alcohol is so prominently displayed, it adds an unnecessary layer of difficulty for those of us fighting to maintain our sobriety.
In the United States, alcohol abuse is a prevalent issue, affecting over 14.5 million people aged 12 and older, according to the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism. For individuals trying to overcome addiction, the environment plays a significant role in recovery. The temptation of having alcohol so readily accessible at gas stations and convenience stores makes it that much harder for individuals to abstain.
It's time to address this issue by changing how alcohol is displayed in retail locations such as gas stations and convenience stores. By positioning alcohol away from places solely intended for purchasing essentials like gas and cigarettes, we can create a safer and less triggering environment for individuals battling addiction.
A practical solution would be to exhibit alcohol products in a separate section, away from check-out counters and essential goods. This simple restructuring can greatly reduce impulse purchases and aid individuals committed to recovering from alcohol dependency.
Other states and countries have implemented similar measures with success. Research from multiple regions shows a decrease in alcohol-related incidents when access is moderated.
It's time for us to prioritize the health and recovery of individuals by reevaluating how alcohol is marketed and sold, especially in easily accessible places. Join me in requesting change from gas stations and stores to help support those in recovery by signing this petition. Together, we can create environments that foster healthier choices and safer communities. Please sign and share this petition to make a difference.
