To the Leadership of The Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Campus of the San Antonio Jewish Community:

It's time to take seriously the rising tide of anti-Semitism across the globe by addressing the real security concerns at home.

Wide open and unattended entrances to the Campus are irresponsible and negligent. Hundreds of children are at risk because you are not fulfilling your most basic role as caretaker of communal resources. Are you so naive to think that what's happened in other cities cannot happen here?

If the worst happens and the best that you've come up with is a second unsecured entrance, what will be your response? You can do better and more than you're doing now, and you know it. So why aren't you? The answer is pretty clear - the JCC CEO is standing in the way.

Please take seriously the long-standing requests of many and install real security precautions that are more than rubber stamps of the JCC's CEO's short-sighted fears that a hardened target will hurt his business.

The business of the Campus is serving the Jewish community, and it's unconscionable that so little is being done to keep our people safe. Why is unfettered access to athletic facilities more important than reasonable, measured security for the highest profile Jewish address in the city?

We urge:

1. A real access control system that keeps the doors LOCKED at all times.

2. A trained, uniformed security presence at all times that the Campus is open.

3. Regular and visible police patrols to deter casual threats.

4. An accountable and serious security committee that does not include the JCC CEO (unless there is a change in personnel for that office)

We implore the leadership to act before something bad happens, not after it's too late. This matter is too serious to be ignored or swept under the rug in the name of secrecy. The standard JCC response "we do not comment on security matters" is unacceptable.
