On January 15th, 2013, Governor Andrew Cuomo signed into law the SAFE act, a sloppily drawn up bill which was passed at midnight, without the legislators being able to read it, and without any debate or discussion. This was circumvented due to the fact that Cuomo shamelessly issued a "message of necessity" to bypass all necessary and normal legislative procedures. A message of necessity is only supposed to be issued during an emergency; clearly, this was an illegal action by Cuomo. And if this isn't bad enough, the bill itself is even worse. The bills bans assault weapons and ammunition, has created a national gun registry, and evens states that, by law, you are now required to report someone to the authorities if you believe that they are capable of gun violence, and that person will be legally required to relinquish their firearms. Even more stupid, it now requires that you are only allowed to hold 7 bullets in a 10 gun chamber. This is absolute ridiculousness, both in the unconstitutional and disgusting way it was passed to the unconstitutional provisions this bill has. Owning firearms is our right as Americans, for self defense, sport, and other legal reasons, none of which should be infringed upon. To say that you would never need an assault rifle for self defense, sport, or any other legal reason is stupidity, and it's a statement made only by ignorant people who make blanket statements to fit their lifestyles. Even if you do not believe in gun ownership, sign this petition; if the government is willing to violate our second amendment rights, what other rights, which you care about, are they willing to circumvent and destroy?
