The Canadian Government will not allow Canadian Seafarers to carry a second Canadian passport. Their reasoning is that it is a security risk. USA, Great Britain, Norway, to name a few, seem to disagree as their seafarers are allowed two national passports. Due to the Canadian governments refusal to allow seafarers to have two passports, Canadian seafarers are losing out on well paying jobs and being held in foreign countries while their passport is with Immigration officials. It is time for the Canadian government to bring in a policy change and allow seafarers to carry two national passports, bring Canada in line with the other G7 nations.
I started this petition as I sit in a hotel room in Angola, unable to go home to my family as the local authorities have my passport to renew a visa. They have had the passport since August 11th.
Time and time again this happens to seafarers world over but lucky ones can go home as their government allows two national passports.
