Sign to Oppose A High-Speed Rail Bypass Through Southeastern Connecticut

Please rethink this horrendous plan!

I oppose this idea 100%. It would be a complete disaster and devastation to our historical area as well as our environment. Whoever though this would be a benefit needs their heads examined.

It would make more sense to upgrade the current corridor to accommodate reliable rail travel. And hey, if you need bypass, how about an 18 wheel truck bypass. Can you imagine the reduction in traffic.

A plan to run a new rail through Old Lyme's historic district, effectively bisecting the town and disrupting the natural habitat of the shoreline, sounds like a terribly ill-considered idea.

It will do irreparable harm.

I am strongly opposed to the FRA proposed high speed rail line through the heart of Old Lyme and other national historic and environmentally significant communities and lands of the Connecticut coast. I agree that the Old Saybrook to Kenyon route should be removed from the planning process.

I strongly oppose the Old Saybrook-Kenyon bypass being considered for our area. Old Lyme is a historical local - even national - treasure and would be destroyed by the relocation through its very heart. Second, the Connecticut River was the very first designated "National Blueway" as well as a DEEP and Audubon-designated "Important Bird Area" of Connecticut (see http://www.ct.gov/deep/cwp/view.asp?Q=582644&A=4808). Moving the bridge or, worse, tunneling under the river would contradict all federal and state designations and destroy both cultural and wildlife ecosystems. Finally, the train and tunnel (or new bridge) would destroy museums, marinas, businesses and peoples' livelihoods in an area already struggling financially. Real estate sales have sagged, affected by the mere threat of railway running over and through their midst. Museums dedicated to the traditions of art in the Connecticut River Valley, one of our brightest gems, will be a direct hit by this bypass. This bypass is a bad idea. Please do not ignore the public will by shoving it through. Thank you Katharine Constable

I would hate to see this railway through this amazing area.

Build Infrastructure, do not destroy while you are doing it.

Don't be short sighted and forget that some things cannot be undone!

This poorly planned and researched plan would destroy a scenic historic area and irreparably damage the local economy.

Please do the right thing and take this option off of the table! It is the only right decision!

Environmentally and Historically this would be a sad disaster!

Keep the old lyme and adjacent shoreline as it is!!!

Opposed to the bypass through Old Lyme, not opposed to high speed rail on the East Coast.

Bad idea. Will take away the beauty of the area .
