the council just voted and they rejected the rezoning application. seeing so many people show up for our waterfront really makes me proud of this community. we definitely need to keep watching what happens next but for now we won.

Final supporters
There is currently a proposal before Sechelt Council to Rezone an area of the waterfront from R1-Single family residence to CD-39-Special infill zoning, to allow for 4 apartment buildings, up to 6 stories high and one town house building for a total of 48 units and 80 parking spots.
We, the people that live closest to this area, are extremely concerned about the impact this will have on the sensitive waterfront ecology, the large number of trees that will have to come down to accomodate this proposed development, the amount of additional traffic to be handled from 48 new units being built all in an area that already has high traffic volumes.
We respectfully ask that you sign this petition asking the Sechelt government to deny the currently proposed application for rezoning.

im spending my week looking over the city planning documents to prep for the upcoming council session. its clear from reading your comments that im not the only one worried about the trees and the traffic so please keep sharing your own stories about why this waterfront matters.

im honestly blown away by how many people joined this cause today. its clear a lot of us care about keeping our waterfront safe and cant just sit back while this development happens.

I'm not against development, but monstrous concrete buildings on the waterfront do not reflect the beauty of our natural surroundings. Perhaps our council should take some inspiration from Gibsons where the new buildings are constructed of natural materials and reflect the west coast.
I walk here almost every day, I do not agree with the rezoning at all. Let us all enjoy the waterfornt, there is not much left where the public can walk.
This rezoning should never happen! This is parcel of land that is surrounded by SINGLE family homes, both Waterfront and Non Waterfront. A much lower density, with a repect for the mature trees on the parameter of the property would be acceptable .
The District has all ready ruined the Waterfront in Sechelt by allowing the 6 Story Watermark building that blocks off 1 block of ocean frontage. No more please.
This proposed development is far too great in size, given it's location. The old growth trees on this property need protection. The expansion of the park next door to include this property would really be a thoughtful gift to future generations.
Totally unacceptable. Would devastate the waterfront. This is not Vancouver, greedy pigs!
Doesn't fit the neighbourhood. Why do municipal people spend countless thousands of dollars and hours to develop and create an OCP, then propose to ignore it and allow a monstrosity like this to built. I thought perhaps they learned their lesson with the great waterfront wall called Watermark. Evidently not. Keep the remaining waterfront R-1. It's not green, it's not sustainable, it's not eco friendly, it's not low income housing, it's not...(insert all the other common buzzwords used frequently) etc etc etc.

Yet another give away to a developer without any thought on the water draw that a complex with have on the already limited water resources on the Sunshine Coast. This development needs to be stopped .
