As the population of Seattle is steadily increasing the need for quality and affordable housing in desirable areas is becoming more of an issue. The Seattle office of financial management predicts that the population of King county alone will grow from 1.9 million persons in 2010 to 2.4 million in 2040! As more people can't find affordable housing in the city the population within the suburbs will become much larger causing issues for commuting with not only cars but with the public transportation as well. If we had a solution that would allow more people who use bikes and public transportation to live in metro areas that were closer to their work or on a bus route then this problem would be somewhat alleviated. Thankfully, there is a solution that has been working for many cities around the world and most recently has been adapted for New York living: The Micro-apartment. Wikipedia defines a micro-apartment as "a one room self-contained living space usually purpose built, designed to accommodate a sitting space, sleeping space, bathroom and kitchenette within around 150-350 square feet. Residents may also have access to a communal kitchen, patio, or rooftop garden." This style of apartment is perfect for many students and singles and even couples just starting out. We realize there are many people out there who are concerned about the development of the micro-apartment and that is why we encourage you to sign our petition to support the regulations that will govern the development of these buildings so that there will be a specific set of standards that must be adhered to and both sides of this debate will be placated.

Proposed citywide regulations
Micro-apartments cannot be:
1. larger than 285 sq. ft.
2. have an oven or cooktop
3. be without one 120 sq. ft. kitchen for every 8 residents
4. have a sink outside the bathroom
5. have no more than 8 micro-units in a dwelling
6. have less than one bike parking station per four micro-unit residents
7. be built in single family zones
