Final supporters
We are the Seahawk Wrestling Club. This is our 4th year as a 100% student run club team on campus, and we still don't have wrestling mats. The past 4 years we have been renting mat space (with no financial help from UNCW) at an outside facility and it is no longer a viable option. We have requested to use the wrestling mats that other clubs on campus use, but have just been shot down. Our goal now is to obtain our own space on campus, and mats to practice on. In order to do so, we must first demonstrate to the University of North Carolina Wilmington that this will have an exceptional benefit to the university and its student body. The administration has acknowledged receipt of our formal request regarding the lack of training facilities on campus. I am currently preparing a detailed proposal to demonstrate how a dedicated wrestling space will serve the university community.

Wrestling builds character and provides young men and women an opportunity to hone the craft of perseverance. These young scholars have built, funded and ran the club for years now. Hard work should be rewarded.
How can an institution of higher learning deny their students the simple request of utilizing available space? The mat is provided and there are no costs to the school. Clubs are student-led and non-scholarship, therefore the Title IX excuse doesn't apply. Best of luck!
I would even like to see UNCW host a tournament once this organization takes off, it could be very lucrative to the university!!!
As president of the lacrosse team I give my full support the the wrestling team. I know all the guys and they are good people looking to strengthen their team. We (the lacrosse team) are allowed to practice on campus and it has exponentially added to the number of members that show up. If we were off campus I do not believe we would have the support that the wrestling team has already established.
This is where my son wants to attend college. He just placed second in middle school championships in our area in his weight class. Wrestling provides so much more than any other sport I've ever seen. What it has done for him cannot be bought. UNCW, if you were smart, you would foster this sport with your full support.

The Wrestling Club should have the same opportunities, rights, and student fee funding if it meets the same club sports requirements as the other teams.
