Please allow the 2020 graduates of Seabury Hall to graduate together under the tent. The ohana of the graduates can be watching from a safe distance. It was devastating to receive news that graduation was canceled at the drop of a hat after waiting in limbo for a couple of months.

I think that this is a great idea. I would really value this last meeting for graduation with all of my peers, so I can say goodbye

The seniors are about to embark on their next chapter. We are asking them to now go out in the world, weigh evidence, and make wise choices. Their respectful request for an in person graduation is an example of them already practicing this. They have seen other schools - small and large, on Maui and elsewhere - safely and successfully carry out variations of in person graduation. They envision components that follow the current rules and sensibilities, permitting students (and families) to socially distance and safely participate. As a family, we do what we can every day to minimize virus impact and prevent spread - it often means difficult decisions and saying no. But here we may have an opportunity to say “yes” - to safely infuse some much-deserved joy into a challenging year. Some in-person graduation should be considered (acknowledging that what is “safe“ is a moving target and could change in an instant). Administration can empower the students and help this happen inclusively and SENSIBLY, respecting county guidelines and everything we currently know about COVID transmission. Because let’s be real, creating a safe monitored event in an approved venue can help reduce unsanctioned, more risky gathering otherwise.

Allow the kids to have their celebration & closure. As they reflect back on these trying times, this is a pivital moment of their future reflections of Seabury.

You can make this happen Seabury! The request to have 75 seniors graduate together is well within the guidelines. You can produce a beautiful ceremony, honoring Seabury Hall traditions, and create a wonderful graduation event for the class of 2020. The families of graduates could be watching remotely and staged nearby in “Separate events” in the Gym, Dining Hall, Chapel, Cooper House, Library... it can be done. And the Junior class is here to help!

Let the Seabury Hall Class of 2020 graduate together, in person, with honor and pride!

Absolutely! The request is reasonable and within the guidelines, and could very well be a beautiful ceremony, keeping with Seabury Hall traditions and most importantly, a joyful and positive closure for the class of 2020. Graduates’ families could be separated in pods, watching remotely, nearby, in the Gym, Dining Hall, Chapel, Cooper House, Library... live streaming, and kids could walk to join family after receiving diplomas. And of course all wearing masks.

Please allow the Class of 2020 to have their modified and safe graduation ceremony. They deserve this, given their years of work and bonds as friends, as well as what they have endured this year. Please give them a proper send off!
