My father was stationed as a US Army officer in Chinon, France from 1955 to 1958. I was born in the US Army Hospital there in 1957. The SS United States ship brought my father, mother and me back (well, me for the first time : ) home to the United States in Nov. 1958.
The Captain of the ship at that time told my parents that I was the best little sailor he had ever seen (at 19 months old : ) Please save this ship! In Jesus' Mighty Name! Amen!

The ship is sadly already well underway to the Gulf Coast where they plan to prepare her for a deliberate, permanent sinking. They intend to put her on the bottom nearly 200 feet down, as a draw for diving tourism. But only a relative handful of people will ever see her again this way, compared to the tens of thousands who could board her each year if she were repurposed or turned into a museum ship like the Queen Mary. This cruel fate is damn near criminal. Save the SS United States!
