it already seemed like robbery before.. paying full price for a fraction of the service. This is just sickening.

As a seasonal resident I rely upon high speed internet service to manage my professional and financial life away from home. The Eastlink service is barely adequate at present. A cap makes me want to just close the house and go home.

I find it offensive that Eastlink is saying "we won't participate in upgrades because we will be in this position again in a few years". You took tax dollars and underdelivered. FIX IT. It is not even up to the standard you promised 8 years ago, nevermind current benchmarks. It takes me over a minute to load a basic website like the CBC.

The Government has to step in here as they paid them a lot of money, and now they are going to try and avert their own Bad decision to run this crap instead of simply running the cable!!! This system is down,(or at best barely working) and they want to bill for over usage,,are you kidding!!! This is Extortion at best!!!!

This is the worst most unreliable, un supported service I have ever seen. They made all the towers able to support the new cell phone service. Which was probably their goal at the start.

1. Operating system and application updates now consume many gigabytes. A professional workstation cannot simply be moved to some other location with a wired connection to update, nor can the updates be typically downloaded on one machine and used on another (due to security and signature conventions).
Two Apple machines doing an OS upgrade or a World of Tanks update, is 15GB. Eastlink cannot be allowed to cite outmoded ideas of "appropriate use", especially not after selling the Rural Broadband system.
2. Netflix is not a problem. 720p and 1080p streaming from YouTube, Netflix or other easily-detected streaming sites, can be throttled and messages sent to customers to use 360p or 480p instead. Had the problem actually been Netflix streaming, Eastlink would have put such limitations on at peak times (like weekday evenings), rather than a cap that applies to use at all times. Other networks like Seaside's manage Netflix and YouTube streaming just fine.
3. Eastlink incorrectly built many repeater towers instead of investing properly in wired network extensions to those towers. Such towers would be extremely useful to its cell phone business, covering unserved "shadow" areas like beaches and provincial parks and deep river valleys, where there is expensive real estate. Eastlink has failed to actually build comprehensive business cases even within its own organization to show the advantages of such wired extensions.
That said, Nova Scotia Power and Bell Aliant have been able to block extension of wired networks with spurious tariffed charges for "looking up who owns poles", false claims to own public rights of way between poles, control of closets, and other barriers to entry. These must be eliminated immediately so that parties inhibiting extension of Eastlink's network get the hell out of its way.
4. The recent provincial review of the electricity system essentially failed to take "the energy Internet" into account. Power grids increasingly rel
