The concern for scientific achievement in our country continually increases. The United States currently ranks 21st of 30 countries in scientific literacy. Thus our children become less prepared to succeed in our global economy. Our town has, in the past 5 years, made some improvements to our science program. While literacy and math are critical to student achievement and receive the personnel support from the Board of Education and Town of Monroe, science is once again taking the place as a stepchild within our schools. Nonetheless we, the undersigned, hereby petition the Board of Education to restore the position of science coordinator to full time status so that our town can compete within our state, country and world in order to enable our students to become scientifically literate in an ever-changing world.
