I am a current student at a high school and it has come to my attention that schools are wasting TONS of food every day. Have you ever thought about how many kids throw away food everyday during lunch? Some schools (well my school) stopped using reusable trays and started using STYROFOAM TRAYS. That is a complete waste and it is absolutely terrible for the Earth. If you think about how much food, milk cartons and trays get thrown away every single day in ONE school, and then think about how many more schools there are in Minnesota... in the U.S.... in the WORLD, that throws away all that stuff too... THAT IS A LOT OF WASTE, and that is just in ONE DAY. What about the rest of the school year? I can't even imagine all of that that gets thrown away. WE NEED SCHOOLS TO START COMPOSTING!!! I understand the city has a "budget" but I think the environment is more important, think of where the world is heading and what is happening right now- GLOBAL WARMING. We have to think of the future I certainly do not want my future kids, grandchildren, and etc., living in a world without clean water, clean air, a CLEAN ENVIRONMENT. We have to start somewhere and I think getting schools to compost is one step of many we need to take to have a bright, healthy, clean environment for the future.
