The uniform we are required to wear at school is a blazer, a blouse, a tie, and a choice of bottoms (straight leg trousers and a pleated skirt). We believe that this uniform could be improved by having a more broad dress code which includes trousers and skirts that would be more comfortable, as well as fitting with the workplace environment.

Firstly, we believe that the school should incorporate pencil skirts into the uniform list. This would allow students who would like to wear pencil skirts to wear them, however if they want to wear pleated skirts, the option should be there too. The advantages to having a wider option of skirts is that it would prevent the issue of skirts being blown up by the wind. Furthermore, students have said that they would feel more comfortable in their body if they were allowed to wear a pencil skirt. This would result in better mental health in students, which we believe would help them perform better in school. By no means are we suggesting that short skirts are appropriate for school, we merely are asking for you to take into consideration having a wider range of work-appropriate skirts for students to chose from.

Additionally, we would like answers to why staff have an aversion to students ankles being shown when wearing trousers. We believe that this is unnecessary, because there is nothing inappropriate about our ankles. Conversely, our PE kits expose our entire legs, so we are unsure why our ankles being revealed is an issue. This issue could be resolved by letting students have more freedom with their choice in trousers (flared trousers, tighter fitting trousers etc.). Once again, these trousers would have to be school trousers and appropriate for a workplace.

In signing this petition, you are helping to have your voice heard in the student community, and help a cause you agree with in a peaceful manner. By no means do we want to bombard the staff with this idea, because there are more important issues in school. All we want is for our ideas to be listened to and took into consideration.
