Let me start out by saying I have no hopes of getting this seen by anyone of any importance to the school or district because it's not going to make a difference if they do anyways. I am only putting this out there to hopefully make a positive impact on everyone else that feels as I do and so maybe when someone stands up for themselves they can make these points known. Okay now I'll begin on the topic... It's a bunch of sexist rules put together by mostly male admins so they and other male students don't get boners throughout the day when we (girls) pass them in the halls with our thighs and shoulders hanging out everywhere. By telling girls that we can not wear a certain shirt or skirt or shorts or dress or even leggings(???????) to school because "boys will be boys" (and yes I have heard multiple boys and teachers, male and female, say this while I was passing through the halls) that is advocating rape culture, and that is NOT okay. Especially in a teenage environment like high school. Let's teach boys to respect girls and not to stare at their thighs in shorts or their shoulders in a tanktop or their butt in leggings and jeans. It is our body. I don't frankly like to see a guys butt hanging out of his pants but absolutely nothing is being done about that or the cut off shirts that guys wear with huge holes on both sides, never have I once seen a boy get sent to the office or home for something that could be fairly marked as "distracting" to girls. You are also telling us by pulling us out of class or even going as far as sending us home because our outfit was "distracting" that male education is more important than ours and that they deserve a distraction free learning environment. Boys are no more entitled to an education than girls are. Now, let's talk about the all mighty leggings, rising to the top once again this fall and winter as they do every year and for some reason have not become a problem until now. Leggings are a fitted cotton material typically in black, very soft and extremely comfortable; personally making me want to learn even more because of the comfort provided but comfort is aside the point; they look and fit exactly like skinny jeans which have always been allowed except that they don't have seams or pockets, completely covering of our legs and not revealing at all. I don't even feel the need to go into detail about tanktops and shorts because they are pretty self explanitory, shoulders are not sexy what so ever and neither are thighs. The "fingertip" rule is completely asinine and not fair to anyone as everyone has different length arms and some shorts that may look very long might not be fingertip length if the girl has longer arms and vice versa. Bottom line we still live in a sexist environment where boys get babied and told to at least keep their penis' in their pants until they get home from school and girls are told to dress conservatively so the boys won't be "distracted" throughout the day and I guess turned on by our body parts none of which should be sexualized in the first place.
