Wrexham Independent Group on Wrexham council are campaigning to stop the massive rise imposed on school bus fares which are subsidised by Wrexham council. The current single fare is £0.55 pence or £1.10 for a return journey. These buses are provided to support the public transport network in meeting the demand not met by the commercial bus network.  Wrexham council's new adminstration have agreed to increase school bus fares from £1.10 to £1.70 per day from April 2013 a 55% increase. Parents will have to pay an extra £3.50 a week or £115.00 a year for one child. The council are also re tendering contracts with bus operators to exclude the bus fares, which means, if the fares are not collected buses will be withdrawn.

Wrexham Independent Group say this is too much all at once and an incremental increase would be far more acceptable. We are concerned it may lead to some pupils not attending school and leave parents in transport poverty.
