The council has officially scrapped the proposed 55 percent fare hike. We are shifting our focus now to monitoring the new contract tender process to ensure that current bus routes remain protected.

Wrexham Independent Group on Wrexham council are campaigning to stop the massive rise imposed on school bus fares which are subsidised by Wrexham council. The current single fare is £0.55 pence or £1.10 for a return journey. These buses are provided to support the public transport network in meeting the demand not met by the commercial bus network. Wrexham council's new adminstration have agreed to increase school bus fares from £1.10 to £1.70 per day from April 2013 a 55% increase. Parents will have to pay an extra £3.50 a week or £115.00 a year for one child. The council are also re tendering contracts with bus operators to exclude the bus fares, which means, if the fares are not collected buses will be withdrawn.
Wrexham Independent Group say this is too much all at once and an incremental increase would be far more acceptable. We are concerned it may lead to some pupils not attending school and leave parents in transport poverty. Please sign the petition and write or email your local councillor to ask what they think on these massive fare rises.

I am currently finalizing a formal letter to the Wrexham council administration detailing the financial impact this increase will have on local families. We are requesting an immediate review of the contract retendering process to ensure school access is prioritized over budget adjustments.

Ridiculous. they are basically forcing kids off the bus and onto the overcrowded public routes. does anyone in the council actually think this through?
Greedy. plain and simple.
Just another way to tax parents who are already struggling. do better wrexham council.
STOP TRYING TO PRICE PEOPLE OUT OF EDUCATION. it hits the lowest income families the hardest every single time.
55% is absolutely insane. how are families supposed to manage this with the price of everything else going up already???

my daughter uses the bus every day. an extra 100 quid a year is money we dont have just sitting around. fix the budget somewhere else.
