This solves nothing!

Don't restrict these Vans, it's business or mh or whatever SB. How about narrowing down to one lane either way on cliff dr from meigs to 'new roundabout '...police trafficking speed, no rear endears and hit and hit and runs...Why don't you Santa Barbara's peep speak out???

This area was built on blue-collar, commercial, labor companies. Not to mention all of the outdoors man and women who reside here for that sole reason. Create restrictions on things that are actually going to improve our lives not negatively affect them.

This is an unjust ban against all vehicles over the height limit, even for those used for work and recreation. I have a sprinter van for business that I have to use around the city, even during odd hours.

SB city officials should seriously review bans and their impact on commerce in the city. Modify it to motorhomes and what it was intended to keep off the streets.

To whom it may concern: As a resident of Santa Barbara who lives in a part of town where parking pressure is high and people often live out of their vehicles, I understand the thinking behind this ban. While I understand the issues the city is trying to address by enforcing this, i think there is plenty of room for improvement in this law. Residents of Santa Barbara who own vehicles for recreation, work, or transporting large families are unfairly affected by this ban. A possible solution to this problem is to ad an exception for permanent residents of the city and or relax the size requirements to exclude large cargo vans like dodge sprinter vans, ford e series vans, and the like which are often used for the reasons I stated above.

Issue: Traffic safety City's Solution: Ban all "oversized" vehicles from city streets We really are living in Trump's America There has to be a better solution than this, especially regarding the height restrictions. This ordinance targets/discriminates upon a certain group of vehicles, primarily Sprinters, Promasters, Transits and other newer, Euro-style vans. These Euro-style vans are quickly replacing classic American style vans due to the fact they are easier to load and unload, cost less to operate (ie: gas milage/fuel economy) and are far more enjoyable to drive. There are many cars, trucks and other vehicles on the Santa Barbara streets that pose greater safety concerns and are not essential to the prosperity of local business/tradesmen. Looking through these initial comments, you can see how many people will be affected. It affects not only local business who rely on bigger vehicles to haul equipment and people, but also daily drivers and families who rely on these cars to get around town, transport kids/animals, haul recreation vehicles/equipment, etc. People who have these “tall” vans purchase them because the are active members of the community, whether commercially or recreationally. Many are not able to live with the luxury of a driveway or a driveway big enough to fit a small business fleet. If the overall issue is oversized campers and RVs, then lets focus on that. I think we can all agree that wide, long campers parked on small, congested downtown streets are a safety concern. If the overall issue is traffic safety, then I can think of a ton of dangerous streets with unnecessarily high traffic speeds, improper signage/lighting, overgrown trees/bushes, horrible engineering (ie: no visible lines, parking lanes/bike lanes, cross walks), etc. Shame on the city for coming to harsh decisions without fully understanding the impact it has on its citizens, many of whom make up Santa Barbara’s identity.

While this a well-intended modification of the ordinance, the height limit is unnecessarily restrictive. The ordinance, as amended, fails to make a defensible case for why 82" tall vehicles are not allowed. Please consider limiting vehicles that are at risk of striking overhead objects, which in nearly all instances does not include vehicles many depend on for regular, personal transportation.

The City of Santa Barbara has exempted themselves from this ordinance, but they say that it is a "safety" issue. So shouldn't the City of SB have to comply with their ordinance if they are truly concerned with the safety of the public.

MySprinter is my primary business vehicle. We perform residential remodels. Most my subcontractors all drive "oversized" vehicles. We cant all fit in the driveway. This does not only affect me but also my subs and employees who drive wide utility bed trucks. We cannot function driving small family sized vehicles. This will be an extreme hardship on may trades people, cleaning services, etc. There is also the issue that Santa Barbara has exempted their own "oversized" construction and maintenance related vehicles. As well as COX cables Sprinter fleet. As the city knows these vehicles are necessary. If they were not we urge you to also bad your oversized vehicles as well as COX cable's Sprinters and the other public utilities you have exempted.

This van is my daily driver, work vehicle,and grocery getter. Now I have to worry about getting a parking ticket if I take the dog for a walk at the Wilcox? I have never been madder in my life when I saw one of the signs right near the Rattlesnake trailhead. I have been parking a van and hiking that trail for 50 years!!!! Crazy

Sprinter owner

I understand the city trying to control the homeless situation but this is taking the requirement too far.

I just purchased this sprinter van so me and my family can enjoy life some more. I have paid over $50,000 in taxes this year alone and work very hard for my money. We enjoy bicycle riding, beach days, sunsets in random spots. Sprinter van is great on gas and is smaller overall then the truck I drive. This would keep us from parking at our local trails, beaches, etc etc. Thanks for listening

Please do not include Sprinter Vans in this ordinance. They are our work vehicles. Thank you!

This is a rediculas ordinance, what are tradesmen, gardeners, and working folks supposed to do?

How are people who operate these types of vehicles, which may be their personal vehicles, supposed to support local businesses, either to shop, enjoy a meal or even conduct business, if they are not able to park? We also have visitors who travel to our city which will be impacted as well.
