Santa Barbara California has crafted an Oversize Vehicle Ordinance that bans parking on any street within Santa Barbara City Limits. Every van available today and prior to today will be impacted by the 82 inches tall height restriction. It is the goal of this petition to insure owners can park their tall roof vehicles in Santa Barbara, at home and in town to shop or patronize restaurants or other establishments without being criminalized. All vans are impacted by this new ordinance, from low roof MB Sprinter and Ford Transit, to Chevy, Dodge Promaster and Nissan NV low and high roof vans. Older Volkswagen pop top Vanagons, as well as many low profile camper tops, also have been found to now be restricted. The city continues to ignore the reality of how this ordinance forces people out of their own neighborhoods. I have been spending my nights digging through legal language to prepare for the next council meeting because this fight is exhausting but far from over.

We will stop visiting Santa Barbara if this passes. Our vehicle is shorter and narrower than a Toyota Tundra. We spend 5-10 thousand per year for Santa Barbara hotels and restaurants but like to visit the beach and many small restaurants with no off street parking.
I'm a plumbing contractor, I live in San Roque and I have a Dodge Promaster Van that I use for my business, I can't believe they pass such an ordinance that would prevent me from parking in front of my own house
Tall vehicles promote our healthy lifestyle by letting us store bikes, boards, soccer goals etc. safely. How does height affect safety? If safety is truly the issue what about UPS, Fed Ex, ambulances, Cox, school busses, trash trucks, vans for handicap, nursing home vans, really? Where do we stop?
I have a sprinter van for Personal use, but also have two more sprinter vans the we use to install marble and granite countertops in the Santa Barbara area, this ordinance is causing Pacific Stoneworks alot of issues.
There are locally owned businesses that need larger vehicles to operate and therefore be SUCCESSFUL (thereby generating revenue for the city.) How about an additional permit system that enables them to park as needed in order to do their work?
I live in Oceanside and park on the street in front of my house because none of us have driveways. I park daily driver transit van in front of my house and now they have a new law that my vehicle is oversized and I get tickets once a month. The city says I have to register my vehicle with a business that it tied to my residence and say the vehicle is for the business to stop getting tickets.
Workmans vehicles, church vans, and regular van owners who enjoy taking their sprinter/dodge/stand-up-van to the beach for day trips shouldn't be penalized because Santa Barbara wants to clean out homeless people from its city streets.

The City of Santa Barbara has exempted themselves from this ordinance, but they say that it is a "safety" issue. So shouldn't the City of SB have to comply with their ordinance if they are truly concerned with the safety of the public.
