I started this petition after seeing a greatly increasing number of youtube videos and websites created to aid anorexics through their journeys. However after actually looking at some of them,
(Links are posted below.) I realised that these "pro-ana" websites could be doing more harm to people suffering this mental illness than good. After spending some time looking at these websites and videos it became apparent that something needed to be done. I then discussed the issue with a few members from the Socialvibe forums, (a charity website.) and we came up with the idea of starting an online petition to shut down these sites. Even shutting just one down would make a big impact. We are hoping to get at least 5000 signatures and then wish to send this off to Oprah Winfrey who has dealt with things in this nature before.
I have spent my nights reading your stories and it hurts to see how many people are suffering from the toxicity these sites promote. I am currently reaching out to advocates who understand the gravity of these online dangers to help us get this message in front of people who can actually force a change.

Seeing this community unite behind such a painful issue feels overwhelming in the best way possible. This momentum shows me that I am not alone in my frustration with how these sites prey on vulnerable people. We are turning this energy directly toward making sure the right people finally pay attention.
