After today's news of two UK Nationals being stabbed before the Europa League tie between SSC Napoli and Liverpool FC, i am at my wits end reading about constant violence concerning Italian football fans. I am aware that hooliganism is a constant problem within the beautiful game and occurs in countries all over the world and no club is innocent. However, in my example when English clubs were banned from European Football after Heysel in 1985, i can't sit back and let people in high places namely the FIGC and UEFA ignore the problems concerning football fans in Italy. How many more examples are we going to need before the correct action is taken to put a top to the violence within Italian football? In early 2001, 5 English fans were stabbed after an AS Roma match, no punishment was enforced. In late 2001, 4 English fans were stabbed, still no punishment was enforced. In 2006, 3 English fans were stabbed. Again no action was taken. It took until 2007 before even a hint of remorse was shown when the FIGC "threatened" to halt all league football within Italy. This was after a series of violent events; *An official died after being caught up in fights in Luzzi. *A Livorno fan needed 20 stitches after Fiorentina fans got violent. *A policeman was killed on duty at a Serie A match. He was struck in the face with an explosive whilst trying to do his job, preventing fighting outside the ground. *One English fan was stabbed and 11 taken to hospital in April 2007. Of course the halt never happened, even after all of this, nothing happened. I am a massive fan of Italian football, i think Serie A is arguably one of the most entertaining leagues in the world and i have huge respect for Italian footballers and Italian teams, but i can't respect the lack of interest, desire to succeed and lack of preventative measures from the people in higher places in Italy. It's time our voices were heard, football fans all over the land can surely appreciate the need to stamp out hooliganism but especially Liverpool, Manchester United and Middlesbrough fans who have seen what violence in Italy can do up close. Italy is a country with immense power and influence, whilst it can put it's mark in industry, business, tourism and culture, i make the call for it stamp it's authority on putting a stop to the violence within football, namely within their own wonderful country. I want these signatures to make UEFA: Route de Genève 46 Case postale CH-1260 Nyon 2 Switzerland AND FIGC: Presidential secretariat TELEPHONE +39 06/84912541 +39 06/84912542 To finally take some action, football is a beautiful game, made to unite people from all walks of life. Don't miss your chance to help improve the everlasting bond between football fans all over the world... Say no to hooliganism.
