We hereby urge and plead MySpace.com to reconsider its responsibilities and: 1. Consider the promotion of eating disorders as the behavior and conduct mentioned under section 7 in their official \'Content/Activity Prohibited\' list.*** (see below) 2. Monitor, review, modify, edit or delete such material. 3. Assume pro-active responsibility towards complaints sent to MySpace customer support through the \'report abuse\' mailing form. Especially regarding this issue. MySpace.com is a growing online community that is popular on a world-wide scale. MySpace allows its users to create personal \'profiles\' where they can post their information, photographs, videos, journal and interests. Through MySpace, users can interact with each other, join mutual groups and share information. With the increasing popularity of MySpace, it has been acknowledged by world media not only as an online tool serving young people, but as a promotional opportunity. This awareness of MySpace\'s accessibility, popularity and power, has led to a countless number of today\'s most popular bands, artists, actors and organizations become MySpace members. A development that made MySpace even more popular and sought after by young people. MySpace.com has compiled a document, which states the terms and conditions that users must abide to.* In this document, a clear list of prohibited content and material aims to protect users and make the site a safer environment its users. Nevertheless, Myspace does not hold itself liable or assumes responsibility for ANY of the content posted by its users. Confusing Perhaps. Dangerous No doubt. At this time, numerous \'profiles\'can be found on MySpace, which openly and intentionally promote eating disorders such as, but not limited to, Anorexia Nervosa. A deadly mental and physical condition that leads to many deaths amongst both males and females every year. On these pages, one can find \'tips\' on dangerous behavior such as self-induced vomiting, laxative use, extreme dieting and distorted body image messages. These profiles, and similar external websites have been recognized by doctors, psychologists and the media as harmful towards individuals currently affected by eating disorders and those who have sought or received treatment for their illness. Pro-eating-disorder websites are known to hinder treatment and even trigger further self-destructive rituals, that can lead to DEATH. By allowing these profiles to exist, MySpace allows for a \'supportive\' community of ill individuals to help each other continue their deadly habits and stay away from treatment. We hope this petition helps us unite as socially responsible and concerned MySpace users and help MySpace become conscious of this significant threat to its users. * MySpace Terms and Conditions page can be found on the bottom of any MySpace page (Click on \'Terms\') ** "MySpace.com nonetheless assumes no responsibility for the Content, no obligation to modify or remove any inappropriate Content, and no responsibility for the conduct of the User submitting any such Content\" *** MySpace prohibits content, which \"promotes information that you know is false or misleading or promotes illegal activities or conduct that is abusive, threatening, obscene, defamatory or libelous\"
