Opening a casino in Centre County makes absolutely no sense and will hurt our economy. Casino will bring low paying jobs, thus will not help our local residents improve their income status. The casino will compete with existing businesses who are already competing for limited tourism dollars. Casino alone will not bring more visitors to the area since they will go to the closest which are all on the way here. The casino will attract vulnerable students into life damaging habits. Plus, a good part of the earnings go back to Harrisburg. Casino does no good for this area.

I'm a homeowner/landowner in the area it will be built . I do not want a casino in my neighborhood. I don't want the extra drugs ,crime , homeless people or issues that come with it . There's lots of other places to build one and I don't want it in my backyard or the front . Go to Philly or Pittsburgh stay away from here .

This type of business does not improve our local economy. We need businesses that produce goods and add value, and employ skilled people. A casino will also draw in undesirable visitors from outside the county.

As a daughter and wife of university professors and a long-term homeowner in the Borough of State College, I have always been tuned into what enhances the life of the student. Over the years, students' lives have been wonderfully enriched by new opportunities such as study abroad and undergraduate research. In many cases, the new opportunities were first imagined by the students themselves, providing valuable experience in both leadership and teamwork. A new casino at the Nittany Mall would be detrimental to the many positive features of a student's life at PSU. The first-year students in particular would be at a serious disadvantage that many would never overcome: they are not yet mature enough to know how to gamble reasonably!

A casino will not in hanse our community. Crime, drugs, poverty, are just some of the things that will come with the casino.

Allowing a casino to open anywhere in our community is a complicated decision. Whereas I do not believe that playing games where money is involved (including betting) is wrong, I also realize that such games can turn left quickly. These “games” can be especially challenging for those who are poor or are in tough spots. In the end, the participants are responsible, but bad decisions place an unseen burden on the community. If we did have a casino, one dream is can it be set up so that it protects those who are weak. My dad says there should be a law to protect people with toothaches because when one is in pain (s)he will agree to anything. I feel similarly about this. How can we set this up so that it honors the dignity of the owners and clients and yet protects clients from going off the deep end? I suspect this is impossible because the risk may very well be the draw of the game. If one wants to purchase a home, however, the bank does try to ensure that one is not over committing one’s income. In the end, I suspect we (parents, teachers, and society members) will just need to teach and encourage the community as much as we can and then let each person make his decision. We as a community are already struggling with trust, mental health, marriages, young person self-image, that I would love it if we could use our time and resources to help the community and not tempt them to overextend.

My grandchildren live quite close to the Nittany Mall. Increased crime and traffic are two of my chief concerns.

A casino would make this end of town even more run down. NOT something we want near our home and family.

I think it is pretty clear that casinos prey on people who can least afford it. I can’t believe our community is willing to sanction that and be a complicit partner.
