I was always against this scheme going back to when I lived at The Old House in Westcott in the 1960s & 1970s.

St Martins Walk was built for small shops, not a huge pub. With the historic church so close, who will police this area during the evening. I doubt the police will.

Please don’t our ruin beautiful market town. This type of pub is totally unsuitable for Dorking. We need to support our independent businesses and I worry very much about the anti-social behaviour and crime it will bring. Dorking has much more class than that!

This is a horrible prospect for this lovely old town. There are absolutely no upsides to a weather spoons opening in Dorking. The council has outlined that a preference towards dependant only shops opening on the High Street which this goes completely against. The clientele that these establishments atracts as well as the binge drinking culture from their prices is not what this community needs, not to mention the poor quality and very unhealthy food they serve. I have 2 young daughters and we use the library in St Martins walk a lot. I don't want to have to see people drinking abd smoking all day long in this area as we go to and from the library. Weatherspoons staff have been on strike just this week due to poor wages and generally treating their staff badly. I do not think that this is the sort of company we should be allowing into our community to exploit the people who here. If it has to be opened and that is a very big if, it should be opened way out of the way down towards KFC where most people don't have to see it.

I cannot think of a single positive outcome of putting a Wetherspoons in Dorking town centre - there are already lots of great pubs, and the Wetherspoons chain is completely soulless and attracts clientele who want cheap booze and no atmosphere. The location choice is appalling - Dorking library is a vital resource for families and it will be thoroughly unpleasant fielding drunks with young children in the middle of the day. I cannot understand why the council will allow this to happen - it’s completely absurd.

Terrible choice for our town.
Dorking won't benefit from this pub chain.
The car park behind M&S is already a mess now with a pub nearby it will be a space for more vandals.

Criminal. This quiet area of town is ideal for mothers like myself to visit. It is safe, shaded and accessible to allow my baby to be situated in a safe place whilst I can have a coffee, take a rest and visit gratitude.removing these independant and highly underestimated shops to make way for a pub is foolish. In such a lovely area with the surrounding greenery and park area needs to stay peaceful. A pub may be if benefit situated elsewhere. For example up towards Waitrose end. Not here where sacrificing particularly such a hub of the community 'beatitudes' will be detrimental

These small unique shops are important to Dorking and bring in people to the area and by replacing them and pushing them out with a huge chain pub won’t and will not bring people in to the area. People come to Dorking for the different shops on offer and we should not chuck out different unique shops and cafes for a chain pub. I’m disgusted that the greedy people in St Martins walk have considered this... someone’s palms are definitely getting greesed.

Dorking is a very small town sharing out falling footfall with great support from older age customers who are keeping the town afloat.

There is a pub already empty that Wetherspoon's could use without having to get rid of vital small businesses. I do not think a pub next to a library frequented by children is a good idea. I don't really want to walk through a haze of smoke with my children to get to the shops along st martins walk.

No need for another pub in Dorking, especially near the new football ground! It can only attract trouble seeing as its known for cheaper booze. Why not use the old yoeman site situated on the high street?

I echo the previous concerns and comments wholeheartedly. Do the people 'in charge' not care at all about Dorking? What on earth are they thinking? Enticing financial incentives must be at play, because there's certainly no genuine care and interest in the town's improvement and development going on here...

Wetherspoons does not fit in with historic country town character of Dorking. Parking is already struggling and with the new stadium, play areas and the excessive number of new flats being built in the town, I am fearful that the lovely town will be ruined by the greedy moneymakers.

Itll ruin the homely feeling st martins walk has. I am 19 years old go to the pub often, but i do not think this is a good place for such a large rowdy drinking place.
