The Warren County Parks and Recreation Commission is facing a $40,000 shortfall for the 2015 fiscal year. In order to address this shortfall the Commission is proposing an implementation of a $5 per car fee for all golf and soccer traffic. VSO goes to great lengths to ensure that the registration fees are kept as low as possible so that more children may have the opportunity to participate in organized recreational youth soccer. The typical soccer season usually lasts 8 to 10 weeks and generally includes a game on Saturday and one to two practices during the week. If a per-car fee is assessed, it would increase the cost of recreational soccer by as much as $80-150 per season, effectively doubling or tripling what it normally costs. For families with more than one child, practices on different nights would require an additional $50-$100 per season. This kind of increase would certainly be cost-prohibitive to most of the recreational players and cripple the organization, if not put it out of operation.
