The Teche Ridge Bypass proposal is not a real alternative as a means of completing I-49 South through Lafayette, for all the reasons cited here. Keep the Connector freeway through Lafayette where it is best suited.

I absolutely oppose any proposal for the I-49 connector that runs through St. Martin Parish or that in any way impacts Lake Martin.

As a tourist who loves to visit Lafayette and who is considering relocating to the area because of the beauty and serenity of places such as Lake Martin Cypress Island swamp system. Please do not even consider damaging it by saying yes to the Tech Ridge Proposal. It would break my heart and make me reconsider spending any of my time and money in the area.

Putting this highway through this area will only destroy it. The proposers talk about sensitive wetlands near Lafayette as a reason to do it, yet they want to bring commercial development right out into some of the most beautiful wetlands in the area. Absurd.

In the words of Theodore Roosevelt: “We have become great because of the lavish use of our resources. But the time has come to inquire seriously what will happen when our forests are gone, when the coal, the iron, the oil, and the gas are exhausted, when the soils have still further impoverished and washed into the streams, polluting the rivers, denuding the fields and obstructing navigation.” I vote no. We are intelligent and ingenuitive enough to find an alternate solution.

Since I heard of this proposal, I thought this sounded like a bad idea. When I heard the proposed right of way would extend to just one mile east of Lake Martin, it was confirmed. This sounds like a very, very bad idea and one that would mostly benefit real estate developers, rather than the community at large.
