On behalf of the District's working families we want to voice our opposition to D.C. Council's new tax on rideshare services. Across Washington countless workers depend on rideshare services as a means of affordable transportation. The 6% tax on rideshare users may very well put this service out of reach for workers at a time when they are struggling to make ends meet.
Support Washington, D.C. families! Reject the rideshare tax!

I am honestly overwhelmed by how many people have joined this effort since I first posted it. This momentum is entirely due to your willingness to speak up for our neighbors. It truly shows that people care when the cost of daily travel starts to hit those who need help the most.

I oppose the rideshare tax on grounds it unfairly penalizes working families and small businesses. The D.C. Council should support working families and small business rather than burdening them with taxes and driving them to Virginia and Maryland. James E. Patterson
The tax is 24/7; however, the Metro does not run at night. People have to use alternate transportation not just when Metro fails, but when Metro does not operate. Why aren't Bikeshare programs being taxed? They take away Metro riders, too.
Don’t discourage alternative means of transportation by taxing them out of business. Rideshare companies give people a backup plan if they metro, bike or walk to work.
Taxing innovative services to support traditional transit is a poor idea. Such a tax operates as a disincentive to use the new service, while doing little to boost the quality or reliability of the traditional transit model. Additionally, such taxes discourage people from using services that reduce congestion, serve neighborhoods underserved by traditional transit, and harm those the tax is supposedly intended to benefit. I personally use services such as Uber and Lyft on a regular basis. The new tax is likely to increase my costs and make be think twice before traveling into the District for pleasure or business.
Ride share services are important to up and coming professionals in my career to male it to last minute appointments and auditions.
Just what we need: another tax for ineffective DC politicians to leverage for wasted spending.
I do not believe in this Rideshare tax and oppose it.

Rideshare services in the DC area are a safe and affordable means of travel for both work & play. Imposing an additional tax on these services will ensure that fewer individuals are able to afford these services & make an expensive city ever less affordable for everyday ppl. It will hurt both rider & rideshare provider & is completely unnecessary.
