In a spirit of international solidarity. The names of Irish freedom fighters inspire respect and admiration, while English royals and leaders around the world evoke memories of colonialism, oppression and war.

This park is named after an Irish legend and should remain as such.

I feel this park should keep its name as it doesnt offend the locals that live there and want it to remain the Raymond McCreesh Park.

Local council officials bowing down to the loyalist/unionist chamber members. Regardless of this mans struggle for irish unity he took the bravest decision to protest to a facist gov with his life. Rip the 10 men. #NOTINMYNAME

I object in the strongest possible terms of the renaming of this park,It is dedicated to a young man who gave his life for his principles,And as a mark of respect we named this park after him.

No matter what your politics are, for a young man to starve himself to death for something he believed in warrants, in my opinion to have more than a play park named after him.we in Newry had to accept one of our canal locks being named after a british butcher, who let millions of people die of hunger who,s only crime was being Irish and starving. I for one will not let it happen because it is the least I can for this brave young Irishman.

I am in my early teens and love reading about my countries history but I don't understand why the people of Newry are even having a discussion about a park being named after a very brave and courageous young man who along with nine of his comrades starved themselves to death not only for five just demands but so that my generation would not have to suffer the inhuman and barbaric treatment that my fathers generation would have endured from the british army,UDR and the RUC every time they walked the streets of their own town. " our revenge will be the laughter of our children" how ironic, no better place to here children's laughter than a play park, with Raymond's name at the entrance.
