SAY NO TO PARKING METERS GUYANA
* No studies were done - suspend the parking meters until a full study is done
*Parking Meters put additional burdens to an already overburdened population
*Ministry of Finance review document states that there is grounds for the revoking of the contract by the Government - So what is Government waiting for.
* Parking fees are way too high ($2052 inclusive of VAT per day)
*After two (2) hours of being immobilized you can be towed (release fine $8,000 +VAT)
*Towing fee too high ($12,000) If your vehicle is damaged during this process the M&CC will not pay for any damage.
*Impoundment fee too high ($7,000)
* Impoundment storage fee too high. Each day (24 hours) your vehicle is impounded the fee is $7,000
*Grossly Unfair that the M&CC can sell your car at public auction after 90 days if you do not pay the fines incurred.
*If you try to remove or interfere with the immobilization device you can be fined $100,000 or spend three(3) months in prison.
*If you give false or inaccurate name to wardens or city constables you can be placed before a magistrate and pay a fine up to $50,000.
*Tender was not advertised or bids reviewed for this Parking Meter project.
*Contract gives complete monopoly to the parking meter company - Nowhere in the world are parking meters owned and managed by private business in this way.
*This profiteering venture will last for 49 years. The company has a contract for 49 years.
* The entire project is clouded in secrecy only begs the question how did this project get passed!!
