Royal Mail confirmed this morning that they will issue individual stamps for our gold medal winning Paralympians. We reached the required outcome and our objective is now fully realized. I am transitioning our focus toward monitoring the implementation of these new stamp designs.

Royal Mail has made a decision not to honour Gold winning Paralympians with their own individual postage stamp. EVERY able bodied Gold winning Olympian will be honoured with their own stamp, so why not Paralympians? This is a huge disappointment and blow to Parents of disabled children who are trying to instil the message that you can strive to be all you want to be and fighting battles every single day to allow their children to be accepted and treated as equals by society. Do Paralympians train less hard? aspire less? Or deserve less recognition for a Gold wining performance? The answer is “NO!” GOLD is GOLD. Say “NO” to disability discrimination.

The volume of support has secured a meeting with Royal Mail representatives to discuss the exclusion of our gold medalists. I am drafting a formal brief outlining the case for equal recognition to be presented during this session. Further updates regarding their official response will follow.

August 10, 2012

I have sent a formal letter to the Royal Mail communications office demanding a written explanation for this disparity. We are currently waiting for their response and will escalate this to the parliamentary oversight committee if they continue to provide non-answers.

Ridiculous decision. My kids look up to these athletes and this just tells them they dont matter as much. fix this.

TOTAL DISGRACE. These athletes work just as hard as anyone else. treat them the same.

Gold is gold no matter who wins it. This is so unfair and honestly pretty embarrassing for the royal mail.

Should have been done from the start. absolute joke that they even thought this was ok.

The olympics and paralympics should be treated the same. so tired of this outdated way of thinking.
