To drill off the Virginia coast would be foolhardy.

My family visits the Virginia Beach area each year. This will definitely impact our decision about vacationing there if happens.

This poses not a threat of pollution but certain pollution just from normal drilling operations. The Gulf states are the example.

Drilling for oil off of the Virginia coast also affects the North Carolina coast.

BP is paying for its crimes. Now, take a look at Santa Barbara. Offshore drilling could destroy the tourism industry along the U.S. east coast, not to mention the destruction of wildlife and eco-systems.

Wind turbines, wave turbines and solar energy all require a grid to transit the energy generated. The grid will create jobs to build and to maintain and wouldn't it be nice for Virginia Beach to be known as a pioneer and front-runner in fossil-free energy.

You only need to Google the term "oil sheen in gulf of Mexico" to see what we will experience if Off Shore Drilling is ever allowed.

We need to commit to alternative energy sources and over time significantly reduce oil dependency. That would be better for our health, improve our political clout with oil producers, foreign and domestic and provide technology for other nations to do the same. Please do not encourage more deep-water drilling. We have seen (and are still seeing) the negative impact of dramatic disasters, and have not yet determined how bad the daily seepage of existing wells is affecting us. Have the courage to do the right thing.

The problem with offshore drilling is that spills are not "if," they're "when." Don't let greed destroy the Virginia/NC coastline.

From 1964 to 1979 surfed Malibu to Santa Barbara on a regular basis. Witnessed first hand the horrible effects on marine life, waterfowl, beaches, ocean and surfers. Still have vivid memories of what Oil Drilling did. Add in an Oil Spill and you have serious devastation. It will ruin what we currently have. Once the drilling starts the consequences can't be versed no matter what anybody tells you. Please, no Oil Drilling!

Not worth the risks to the environment.
