No offshore drilling--we need to protect environment and get OFF hydrocarbons.. The only people that win with this are oil companies and politicians who are in bed with them (!)

Revisit the on going damage in the Gulf. There are alternatives that need to be pursued before we do even further damage to our marine ecosystem.

Virginia Beach is turning the corner to become a preeminent tourist destination on the East Coast. With light rail, an arena being built and burgeoning development in Town Center, Red Mill and the Oceanfront, the Vity's focus should be on attracting tourists and educated young people to move to our area. Tourists and educated young people go where it is beautiful, hip and forward thinking. That's how we should grow our economy, and drilling for oil is counter intuitive to attract those people. Destroying our beautiful ecosystem (or even the perception of it) will in the long run deter the type of people we want to draw into our area.

There are much better avenues to take than to destroy tons of wildlife and wreak havok on our oceans.

Please no drilling! It's time to stop relying on oil and all of the inherent risks involved in drilling. Why not be a leader in pursuing alternative energy resources?! Honor the ocean and the beach!

Tourism brings in millions of dollars every year...., I cannot fathom that the risk of offshore drilling would even be considered!

Offshore drilling for oil, is not only detrimental to the environment; but also to the well-being and safety of our future generations. Its current impact is already visible. From the deaths of animals associated with these areas, to entire ecosystems; to leaks that create unsafe drinking water for our children -the impact of offshore oil drilling is unmatched in its negativity. Allow us to work together to put an end to this harmful extraction!
