NO NIGHT FLIGHTS AT HEATHROW BETWEEN 11:00PM AND 6:00AM

For over half a million people living beneath the Heathrow flight path, night flights in particular cause more upset than almost anything else.

At present 16 flights are allowed between 11:30pm and 6:00am. The first morning flights land at about 4:30am.

There is no compelling reason why those few flights cannot be assimilated later in the day. Airlines argue that some incoming passengers prefer not to take off too late, but it’s not reasonable to pretend that any more than a tiny handful of passengers need to arrive in London at 4:30am. Besides, a minor inconvenience for a handful of passengers is nothing compared to the inconvenience for hundreds of thousands of residents who are woken up by night flights.

The current night flight regime was established in 2006 and was scheduled to expire in October 2012. However the Government has effectively extended the period to 2017 because it does not want to ‘pre-empt’ the Airports Commission which is due to publish its final report in summer 2015.

The Government has launched a consultation into night flights, which will take submissions until January 31st. As with most Government consultations, it is needlessly complicated. However it is important that as many people as possible take part in the consultation, and the link below will take you to a simple guide for doing so.

Please do sign this petition, and we guarantee we will take the petition all the way to Number 10 Downing Street.
