I worked in the downtown east side area and am aware of the social, mental and drug issues that plague this segment of the population. But please don't be blinded by Tunnel vision... only solving the immediate task at hand without thoughtful common sense considerations. Don't reach for the easiest solution. This deserves the extra attention as kids should not be burdened with adult problems. Respect the children and let them play in the playgrounds worry free. Let them enjoy a predictable walk home or bike ride to their friend's house stress free.

i cannot think of a better place worth protecting in the city than a school. Schools have always had careful considerations like slower speed zones, restrictions for tabaco ads, restrictions for pedophiles, teachers and staff are criminal background checked, etc... And for some reason it is suddenly ok to breach this by introducing a segment of the population that is inherently the least predictable to the part of the city that should be the most protected. I cannot think of a better mismatch. Let kids be kids. After they grow up they have a lifetime to worry about adult problems and learn what a needle looks like, what to do if you are poked by it, how some candy-like pills might be opioids, how to not take it personally if a person with mental health needs makes you feel unsafe or uncomfortable, why you lost your bike to someone with more basic needs. I intend to eventually teach these to my kids and maybe they even make a career out of helping solve these social, mental and addiction issues... but today they are just kids... please protect their learning enviroment and safety. Your project has good intentions but i cannot think of a worse location short of setting it up in their gym. Young families are already stressed trying to claw onto the concept of living in a city like vancouver. Throw them a bone

I oppose building modular housing for homeless in this community. The causes for homeless problems are not that people don't have houses. This is The result. The number of homeless people will increase.
