Say NO to Modular Housing

Another decision made for treating the homeless symptom without solving the problem. If that's what our mayor is going for, I suggest he sustainably shelter the homeless in his sustainable penthouse in downtown Vancouver.

No community consultation, lack of info and transparency. Even info session held requires a ticket and it's already sold out. Shouldn't be next to elementary school. What is the city's criteria to selecting residents of this home? What kind of support will they have to help them integrate into society and live clean? Will each person get a case worker and help them through mental health issues? At the very least move this proposed site to Cambie and w.57th where it fits into the density of the neighborhood and is away from the schools and community center.

I will propose we re-build the city hall into a high-rise multi-function building and reserve the bottom three floors for these homeless people.

Hi I went through the exact same thing you are all going thru. I live in Port Alberni. 8 years ago we bought property in a new sub division right near the Multiplex arena , Bob Dailey Stadium and Echo Sports Fields — area heavily used by children and youth. The local government in cahoots with the Provincial government agency BCBC purchased a short term stay property that was designated as short term stays for NIC college that was situated across the street. With behind the scenes agreements between a councillor of the city of Port Alberni who represented a relative (owner of the building) and BCBC they were able to secure this building with I believe approx 60 units for assisted living for adults living with mental illness and addiction issues. THIS WAS RIGHT ACROSS THE STREET FROM THE BALL FIELDS WHICH WERE USED BY YOUNG CHILDREN. I argued strongly , had a petition signed by the community and met at times with the Mayor, city manager and RCMP inspector. I not only that it would be an unsafe location but that the services these people would need were in a completely separate part of the city — miles away. I got no where with this as a deal was already struck between city council the provincial government and the various services for this group. I also was accused of NIBYISM— my 2 young girls walked by this housing unit on way to school as well as sporting activities. It was not right. It was established also WITH ZERO CONSULTATION. Be strong in your stand against the City and there supporters. You are probably wasting your time against Gregors’ no consultation informal policy. DO NOT BACK DOWN.

Wrong location

Terrible location, no consultation, force implementation with little notice. Poor access and transportation for the homeless, why not along Cambie, Pangaea golf course that the City want to develop. It will be closer to Canada line, they have easy access.

Terminate this project immediately. You will be putting our children at risk.

For shame, Gregor Robertson. This is a poorly thought-out plan to your tardy response to affordable housing. Children need to keep their naivete for as long as we can allow them. They are the hope of the future. Let's put this modular housing development next to your children's school.

The city is misleading residents by claiming it is a "temporary" modular housing when the site will be set next to 3 schools for FIVE years, with an extension period of another FIVE years. A 10-YEAR project is not temporary and it is ridiculous how the residents were not consulted for the many potential issues we will face when such housing is located next to 3 schools. It is a hasty decision by the city and definitely not a well thought-out solution to the homelessness issue. The city has a lot of land - why put the site next to schools? Is there no better alternative? Kids and parents will not feel safe going to school. Right idea but wrong location. Once again, the city council and mayor are not listening and are simply bullying their way to make themselves looks good by offering a so-call solution - an ugly political move.

It is inappropriate and dangerous to house high risk population close to schools and community amenity. There is documented fact that rising in crime, harassment, theft, break and enters, as well as drug use and used needles discard.

This is a disgraceful policy for many reasons. We live in Canada...a democracy not a dictatorship. Hence, when policies of public importance are being enacted there should be information sharing so the public is made aware and discussion made available. This is just suddenly rammed down our throats without ANY public consultation. Why not put it in your backyard then? SO what is your next step that you are not telling us about. I work with homeless people all the time and so I can predict the increasing crime rate and needles everywhere. So are you privately going to do the same and ram a safe injection site in the area in a few months?? Thanks for using my tax dollars in this manner. I'd like to know exactly the names of who approved this...and I'll treat you exactly with the same respect you have shown all the residences in the area. FU.
