· The Mayor’s plan to divert 90% of solid waste from the landfill should be opposed by all residents of metro Louisville.

· The fast-moving methane gas plant bill is closely tied to his plan.

· Nearly a quarter of the waste and food waste would go to multiple methane plants built in our communities that stink and don’t do what the experimenters say they do—this is a money making scheme by wealthy interests from outside Louisville.

· The Mayor’s people have tried to deceive us by not telling us that the methane gas plants are part of the waste plan. The planning commission staff recently exposed this. So to be sure that your neighborhood doesn’t get a digester or a compost yard or a waste station, we are opposed to this plan.

· Our city already has a very good reputation for recycling and there is no garbage disposal or methane gas plant crisis. So why is the Mayor pushing this plan? The Mayor says he’s trying to “help conserve landfill space and reduce the demand for raw materials.” How does this make Louisville a better place to live?

· The plan doesn’t make sense. The landfill can handle waste for AT LEAST 50 more years. The landfill takes food waste. The landfill makes methane gas just like the “proposed” bio-digester and the landfill collects methane gas. The landfill has been there, it stinks too, but why not keep the waste going there. The current system is not broken.

· Only 6% of America’s cities have a worse crime rate. Economic well being, health, safety, jobs affect most everyone in Louisville. Let’s work together to solve these problems first before we go looking for a solution to a problem that does NOT exist.

· Shouldn’t the mayor and the council be FOCUSING their time on improving the things that will help the most people? Isn’t that why we elected them!
