"Say No" to Jacksonville, Fl. Backyard Chicken ordinance

I know I'm the "devil's advocate" here, but I just wanted to spread some information. Ordinances, like this chicken law, could exterminate the crowing from roosters. Many cities regulate that the owners must only keep a certain amount of laying hens and cannot have roosters (the male chickens that crow). Salmonella can appear not only in chickens, but ducks, reptiles, and even rodents (a kid's hamster!). Salmonella can also be carried in animal products such as beef, poultry, milk and eggs. With this said, should we ban people from keeping these animals? How far will we go to say "chickens are gross and carry diseases", when we're exposed to many possibly-dangerous animals and products? Home-grown foods are on the rise. Chickens are becoming a hit. With the right precautions, it can be made possible for people to get "farm fresh eggs".

Have you seen the price of property around here lately? Nobody wants to live next to a farm in the middle of a subdivision. Keep the smell and the noise out of our residential neighborhoods.

NO CHICKENS. We have enough problems with stray cats and dogs without adding salmonella to the mix. Redman needs to focus on real issues.

Please spread the word to stop it. It has been passed for the next 2 years only giving 300 permit during that time and them it goes up for city wide approval. So we have 2 years to get signature to stop this ordinance . please share with friends and family and Please sign to stop this.

My neighbors had them when they werent allowed and got out and in my yard. They crowed all the time day or night disturbing my sleep, peace, comfort, and yard. Should not be allowed.

I'm firmly against it. As a child a neighbor allowed their chickens and rooster to roam the neighborhood. When you are 4 years old you don't realize that they will attack you. Let me say that being attacked by a bunch of chickens and a rooster is NOT enjoyable. I'm 30 now and still have little dents and scars all over my arms, legs and back. Keep livestock in rural areas, not the city.
