The West African College of Physician (WACP) and the West African College of Surgeons (WACS) are the two professional bodies with power to organise postgraduate examination for medical doctors, accredit training institutions, amongst other functions. The main function of organising post-graduate exams has undoubtedly been abused and hijacked by old, dubious men and women without conscience! An examination in which candidates, notwithstanding the harsh economic challenges, are meant to pay hundreds of thousands of naira to write an examination with an average of <10% pass is appalling.

Candidates are drawn from every part of the country to UCH, Ibadan, Nigeria for the Part 1 and Part 2 exam; exposed to all kinds of inhumane acts going on in Ibadan ranging from exorbitant hotel bills, hiked transport fares, and the risks of road traffic accidents prevalent in Nigerian roads.

Just in the last exam, the WACP alone made N195,818,000 from the exam registrations; this excludes the people that were disqualified, the specialties that pay extra fees for some other aspects of the exam and other yearly dues.

Many families are being impoverished while these heartless men enrich themselves; the emotional and physical traumas doctors are going through year after year are nothing to write home about. Many have been sacked since they can't pass part 1 exam, just because the WACP and WACS decided to keep them as money making machine - regular customers!

Funny enough, most doctors frustrated out by WACP end up writing other Western Countries Medical Council exams with flying colours.

The question then is, "Is the exam of WACP and WASC really a true test of knowledge?"; "can we vouch for its validity?";"Why have these heartless examiners lost their conscience in dealing with their colleagues?"

We call on the UN, WHO, UNICEF, Royal College of Physicians, American Academy of Physicians, ECOWAS,and other interest bodies to monitor the examination process of WACP and WACP, vet the process and ascertain it's validity.

Please, kindly sign the petition to say NO to these inhuman and dubious acts of WACP and WACS.

Thank you.
