I am a Brookings resident with a child who loves Halloween. However, with his anxiety issues he will not be able to enjoy this holiday the same. My house already stands a chance of being destroyed as it was shown this year that even construction sites around me where vandalized. Parties are getting larger and larger each year, and more uncontroleable, going on for several blocks, cause traffic issues. Not safe to combine these conditions with children who deserve to enjoy their day

Hobo Day on 10/31/2020 is potentially putting everyone at risk.
Mixing Halloween and Hobo Day is too much for our community and law enforcement to handle.

Combining two big income-generating days into one reduces the total amount of money-making opportunities for businesses in Brookings. Also, if people have to choose between Hobo Day or Halloween activities, both will lose out on attendees who are unable to be two places at once. And given the day drinking and evening rowdiness associated with Hobo Day, having it on Halloween would create safety issues for kids trying to trick-or-treat, as well as spread police and security forces too thin.

SDSU has made the official announcement that there is/was another day in October that would work just fine for hobo days (the 10th). I can’t believe no one with kids at the college has said something about changing this date as SDSU also officially announced they know game days YEARS ahead of time. Error on the side of caution and let the adults take care of themself, or pay the city some fine money when they go to jail instead of asking parents to send their kids out to avoid inner city drunk driving checkpoints while trick or treating from house to house. I don’t understand why this is a debate.

I have five children ranging in age from 5-16 and this affects all of my children. People will be so busy with hobo days that less people will be passing out candy for my you get children. Plus I have to worry about drunk people not only bothering my younger children, but also my three teenage daughters. I am afraid to send them out (they are at the age they enjoy going with friends not mom and dad) because of all the drinking and craziness that is associated with hobo days. I can’t keep our decorations out because they will be stolen or destroyed. I really hope you guys reconsider! For our children!
