I am a 23 year old female who is going to spend the next 10-15 years in DEBT. To think that higher level education is going to be provided to inmates AT MY EXPENSE makes me sick. I should have just went to jail.

I along with many of my classmates are in a LIFETIME of student loan debt, it's not fair or reasonable to give people accused of potentially heinous crimes a reward that so many smart, hard-working New Yorkers would deserve far more.

My children are in great, great debt due to school loans. My daughter is $80,000 in debt for school loans and still has to go on to graduate school. We can't help because we work 3 jobs between my husband and I and are considered LOW middle class. We work over 55 hrs a week, don't take expensive vacations, have no vices, do not eat out much, are law abiding citizens, and yet WE are the working class being punished. WE are the ones imprisioned by low wages, no contracts in 4 years, no pay raises and rising prices in food, gas, and anything else. We work hard and our kids work hard, get great grades and get no help with school because they are not minorities and not quite POOR ENOUGH! So why in holy God's name would we give INMATES- the very people who victimize us and society and don't do right, $5000 to get degrees!!! GIve my kids each $5000 per year of college- PLEASE!! There are not even jobs after college for our loan paying children!!! The inmates already get too much, they have a sense of entitlement, NOT a sense of rehabilitation, so DON'T PASS THIS RIDICULOUS LEGISLATION!!! There is ABSOLUTELY NO proof that the recidivism rates drop when they get degrees! How about giving NYS workers raises so they can keep jobs, keep mental health facilities open and prisons and STOP CODDLING these morons. And by the way, I GREW UP POOR, but CHOSE to get myself out of poverty, by WORKING and being a good citizen. It's a choice to be a degenerate, not a given!!!! VOTE NO!!!

How ridiculous! My daughter who never committed a crime is stuck paying her tuition at an exorbitant rate and the Governor comes up with this ludicrous idea.

I do agree that they need to be rehabilitated but not at our tax payers expense. I do not get any breaks for my sons college and he is a great kid.

Put the money back into our NY schools. Teachers have been cut, music, gym, and after school sports, Second, is there going to be forgiveness to the hard working barely getting by people who are struggling to pay back their loans. How about the people that can't even dream about going to college. The poor so called "minorities" get to go for free, now prisioners?? Are U doing Coke now too?? I say, NO.

I worked full time and went to school full time for 8 years and have 100,000 in student loans which I will still be paying off after I retire, and someone who does not respect societies rules is going to get this for free? My ass.

Having returned to school late in life to make a better life for my family I am now paying off $43,000 in college loans. After receiving my degree one year later my company cut my hours so now I have a large college loan, shorter hours, and I am over 55 so I can't possibly hope to get another position because Age discrimination is practiced widely in New York. No person who has broken the law deserves to be given anything free especially when those of us are paying for eduications are struggling to do so. I can not believe the Govenor is trying to do this it is a slap in the face to those of us who work hard and do not break the laws. I will remember this come election day and I hope eveyone else does also.
