Invest in the future, in those who still have a chance. Not those who had that chance and threw it away. If ex-cons want a college education, they can take out loans and put themselves in debt like everyone else.

As a graduate student who has two degrees behind her belt, (Bachelor's and Master's) I am absolutely disgusted Cuomo feels that those who want to go to school are NOT given tuition assistance, yet those who have committed crimes deserve tuition assistance. (I have a lot of student loan debt from attending college/graduate school) This infuriates me!

I am 100% opposed to a plan that puts inmate higher education above law abiding citizens. Also, if it only takes $5000 to give an inmate a college education then why is a law abiding citizen paying $30 to 50K or higher per year for the same education? If you want to give inmates education then take away some other perks like free internet and cable TV for starters.

I work hard to be able to help my sons attend college and now I've got to pay for a convicted felon so they can go to college? Let's worry about the deserving kids before inmates. Get a grip Andrew...work for the taxpayer for a change!

my daughters and myself pay our college bills, no pay for us to go to school. What about our Vets they gave their lives and limbs for us and now people who do worng get a free ride NO i wish someone who help me and my daughter as there father and my husband die plus serviced our country of 24 years ans we still pay our own way.

What is then to stop people from doing something deliberately to land themselves in jail, because either they could never afford college outside of it or would have to work really hard to pay for it afterwards.

Tax payers should not have to foot the bill for criminals to have free college! We work hard to try to afford our own children to have a chance to go to college and being forced to pay for criminals to attend college for free through our taxes is criminal in itself!

I think this proposition is appalling!! I have to pay every month (a significant amount of money) for my education because I did not get grants or anything for free. It disgusts me that cuomo wants to give prisoners, who committed and were convicted of crimes, a free education. Maybe we should all just committ crimes and we can get free healthcare and free educations. Cuomo should donate his own money and personally finance the prisoners if he thinks its such a great idea. I DO NOT want my tax dollars going to this nonsense or for that matter paying for their healthcare. This is why people leave NYS.

I am categorically against this insane proposal. I do, however, believe that it merely a smoke and mirrors ploy by this administration to draw attention against the opposition of the increasing faliure of the (UN)SAFE Act.

I have 2 daughters working multiple jobs trying to pay back their college loans...NO WAY SHOULD A PRISONER GET FREE TUITION! Why not be proactive (instead of reactive) and give the money to the school districts so they can keep people out of the jails in the first place. We may need to put some money in our cities educational system. We also need more jobs...We are making it too easy and tempting for our youth to make poor choices.

I am a stay-at-home farther of two kids. I would love nothing more than to be able to afford to get daycare for our kids but that is out of the question. I would also like nothing more than to have the money to go to college. As a verteran of the US Army I find it appauling that I am unable to attend college due to financial reason. Yet our lovely Governor Cuomo wishes to allow those that have been found guilty of crimes that our own great State of New York has deemed worthy of encarceration are able to do so. So in a rediculous solution for me would be to go to jail so I can attend college. How about something that helps those of us that are law abiding citizens and not those that are guilty. If you don't have the right to vote why should you go to college for free?
